Cake boards are generally used two inches bigger than the largest tier.

For example, if you are baking a 12 inch cake, you will need a 14 inch drum board.

These cake boards are made from compressed wood, then covered with a food safe silver foil, this lets cakes be placed upon this without touching the wood.
